The Indian Man Who Has Eaten Bricks for 20 Years — And Somehow Survived
The first thing you might notice is his teeth. They look completely ordinary. Then he picks up a piece of brick and bites into it. Not as a stunt. Not as a dare. He actually eats it.
Pakkirappa Hunagundi, a man from Karnataka, India, has reportedly been eating bricks, stones, mud and gravel for roughly two decades. And the strangest part isn’t simply that he does it. He says he actually craves it.
His Unusual Appetite Began at 10
Hunagundi reportedly started eating mud and other non-food substances when he was about 10 years old. What may have started as a childhood habit didn’t disappear as he grew older. Instead, the craving followed him into adulthood.
By the time his story attracted international attention in 2014, he reportedly said he had been eating these substances for about 20 years. That would mean he had spent most of his life doing something almost impossible for most people to imagine: eating bricks.
He Doesn’t Just Swallow a Tiny Piece
This is where the story gets even stranger. Reports about Hunagundi described him eating pieces of brick, stones and gravel, sometimes alongside mud. Some accounts said he consumed as much as three kilograms of these materials in a day, although that figure refers to the collection of non-food substances rather than bricks alone.
To Hunagundi, however, it wasn’t necessarily a challenge. It was food. And apparently, he preferred it to some foods that most people would consider irresistible.
